Do your job well!

Sometime between July and now, at one of the 12 churches we have attended, one of the pastors spoke about the work God gives us and how we do our job. His point was not that we need to be doing amazing things or making tons of money, but we need to be aware of the work God calls us to every day and DO IT WELL!! It struck me that morning, and has many days since that day.

Part of the reason that struck me is because one of my biggest frustrations when I was working was other people's lack of work. Somehow, many people in our society have learned how to make a paycheck without fulfilling their duties. I was determined that would never be my lot in life.
The other reason it hit home was because of Michael! Maybe he has not determined "what he wants to be when he grows up," but he does his work well! Not many people would do the work he has done the past 4 months, yet he has gone to work with a smile and battled through. I admire him for not being "above" the work he has been given. I respect him for working any and all jobs well, despite the little respect he gained in return. Mostly, I support him on this journey of determining who he is and what he wants to become because I love him with all of my heart!

It serves as a challenge for me! Right now, my work is being a wife and mommy! Can my kids see Jesus in me? Do the people I come in contact with each day sense God's love through me? Am I doing my job well? You'd have to talk with my kids and my husband to get an unbiased answer on that. Like most jobs, some days are better than others. Today, like every day, I'm going to give it my best because this is the work God has given me...and I am SO THANKFUL!
