Between the craziness of my new job, my digital camera being on the fritz and traveling to NY for Thanksgiving I am very behind in blogging and picture taking. I could tell you I will do better, but I am pretty confident that would be a lie. As much as I love updating each of you here and enjoy each word you share in response, I do this blog for myself and my family. I have always been a journaler, and I find this to be an amazing outlet. I need to come here and share my heart. It keeps me focused and helps me remember all the challenges God has carried me through. So, I will keep at it, but I am sure it will be less frequent than I would like.
In case you thought I had ignored Halloween altogether, here is proof I did not...
After only three weeks on the job, I was somewhat nervous to leave for a week of vacation. My parents had purchased tickets for us to be in NY for Thanksgiving long before I even interviewed for the job. It turns out, I needed it. That may sound silly. Who needs a vacation after only three weeks? Well, let's just say that learning the ropes, traveling twice a week and figuring out what it means to be "the boss" took a lot out of me. The break couldn't have come at a better time. Not to mention, it was the first vacation we have taken as a family since our drive south in 2008.
We spent a full week with my family and it was wonderful. Sadly, my mom was very ill with pneumonia. We weren't able to see very much of my folks and they couldn't even join us for Thanksgiving day. That was a bummer! It just means we all need to get more trips on the calendar for 2010!
We had a great time visiting with old friends, seeing our old town and enjoying relaxing days with family. The kids were SO excited to be together again! We spent a day at the Strong National Museum of Play...truly one of the greatest places on earth for kids! We tried to reenact this shot from last year, but the security monitor that displayed pictures of them proved to be a bit distracting.
The weather was a bit cold for our Southern-brainwashed blood, but we were able to get out a few times.
Thanksgiving day was SO relaxing! We had a lazy morning around my sister's house, then a quiet meal with just our two little families. The food was great, but it wasn't the same without Boppa and Bammy there. After dinner some of our extended family came over with dessert. I won't share the results, but this dynamic team took their efforts quite seriously at a game of "Mad Gab."
Sorry, Drew! You put up a good fight. Better luck next year! My sister and I realized towards the end of the week that we had not done a very good job at capturing our visit in pictures. We attempted to get one group shot before our departure on Saturday morning.
Poor Meghan! She was so upset that we were leaving she couldn't stop crying. It broke my heart. She loves her cousin, Paigie! We're counting the days until their visit to the beach in April! The airplane ride home was full of bribes, treats and laughter! The kids were amazing! Lollipops have some sort of magical impact on kids. As soon as the tears begin, a lollipop cures all!
I miss my family already! Although I am feeling more settled in our new world, the pain of being so far away will never get better. I cherish our times together so much!
