I was never allowed to watch MTV when I was younger, so it has never been intriguing to me. That is, until I heard they were doing a reality show entitled, "16 and pregnant." We've watched a few episodes and have been pleasantly surprised.
Last night, I was blown away! The young woman, Catelynn that was the focus of this episode is so amazing! As a birthmom and adoption social worker, I get so frustrated by the way our society (particularly the media) portrays adoption. It seems like they try to make birthmoms look like greedy, helpless kids and adoption workers like baby thieves. I was SO impressed by the way they presented it in this show. Media is typically not very affirming or honest about the process of adoption. This show is the most true-to-life story I have ever seen about the decisions, emotions and myths around adoption. I think my impression was somewhat biased, as I work for (and ADORE) the agency she chose to work with! If you'd like to see a great 60 minute presentation of what adoption looks like, they will be airing reruns on MTV tomorrow. Or you can go here and watch... http://www.mtv.com/videos/16-and-pregnant-ep6-catelynn/1615511/playlist.jhtml

We've watched this show before, but missed that one. I'll have to watch for it tonight, sounds wonderful!
I watched this and was so amazed by her. I also cried realizing what a couragous decision she was making. I agree that it was a great show about adoption.
