Glad he's still young...

Saturday (Nate's birthday) consisted of this...
ALL day! She was up most of the night Friday with a fever of 102.4 and spent the next 24 hours on the couch. Needless to say, the birthday celebration was less than riveting! She wouldn't let me go beyond 4 feet from her side. We felt so bad for the little guy because he spent most of the cooped up without much entertainment. Some people are hard to please, but Nathan seemed to be content with his McDonald's birthday dinner at home.
Are you starting to wonder if our kids survive on McDonald's? We don't frequent the place, but they both love it so much that once in a while it's a nice break from routine.
Sunday night we had a small party for Nathan with Mike's folks. He was spoiled rotten...once again!
When I was little my mom always made our birthday cakes...THANKS, MOM!! It was a highlight of our birthday every year. I don't remember ever seeing her making them because she always wanted it to be a surprise. I still remember they were always covered and hidden on top of the china hutch until the big reveal. I'm thankful I have those memories...I think it's why it was so important for me to learn how to make cakes for my kids because I know how special I felt when my mom did it for me.
Well...I should have taken her lead on the hiding part. I was beyond crunch time to get it finished and he saw it before I could get it hidden. For the next 2 hours he walked around the house whining, "Mickey cake, NOW?" Poor kid!
In the end, it was worth the wait and he loved it! And although the "celebration" was not what I would have necessarily hoped for, we were together and happy...and he won't remember what it wasn't! I am still having a hard time being honest when people ask how old he is, but I'll get used to it eventually!
